Our last day in Europe! We took the hotel shuttle to the Airport/train station, then took the subway to the downtown area of the city. We saw some really interesting buildings, and a pedestrian area, where there are a large number of booths set up, along with restaurants. We decided that after we returned to the hotel, to book our seats on the planes tomorrow, we'll return to this area and have something to eat.
It is really expensive in the hotel (25.00 Euro each for breakfast, 19.50 Euro for a cheeseburger), so our dinner hopefully will be less, although we have to go a ways to get it. We picked up a couple of subway passes at the hotel this morning, at a special price of 4.85 Euro, each, so we can go downtown any number of times. We just have to put up with the infrequency of the trains.
We saw the "Alte Oper" (Old Opera) that has been completely restored to it's original Grandeur because of the devastation during the war. Also the " Houses of the Romerberg " are fantastic and so fairy tell looking. The Churches and the Guard's Pub are really great
old buildings.
On our way back this afternoon, the train pulled into the main Frankfurt train station, and after a few minutes I noticed that it had completely emptied. We cautiously got off and saw the engineer heading back. He told us we had to switch trains to one on the other side of the platform. We just made it on in time! We've now booked our seats for the return flights, and we lose our internet connection this evening at 8:00 pm, so this might be our last blog from Europe.
We've had a great time, and will have many stories to recount.
