We woke up this morning to clear skies, but the TV news was forecasting unsettled weather. By the time we left the hotel, it was raining, and the rain just got heavier as we went closer to our destination. Finally we ran out of it, and by the time we got to Bath, it was sunny again, although the roads were all wet. We had no map of the city, so we just found a place to park on the street, and wandered around, trying to locate something interesting. It was still early and not too many tourists on the street yet, but later on the sidewalks and roads were crawling with them.
Once again we found narrow, winding streets everywhere. The Roman Baths is the main attraction in Bath, so that's what we looked for. Our British Heritage Passes allowed us in, and we spent about 3 hours going through the facility. It was very interesting seeing how the Romans and various peoples afterwards built and updated the baths. Their technology was primitive, but it still stands today, and I presume still functions, although we weren't able to take a bath to test it. LOL
After we left the bath and were walking around a bit, we came across a couple of street performers, who were hilarious. The were both dressed in thongs and nothing else. They had been going for some time, so we just caught the last few minutes of their performance, which included doing simultaneous handstands with sparklers stuck into the cracks of their behinds. It was quite funny.
The cost to go into the new baths is outrageous so we decided not to spend an arm and a leg. We got some pictures of the Royal Crescent and I bought a necklace of Bath Aqua Glass which is made the same way as my ring, which I bought years ago in Williams Lake. Everything is very expensive. We had lunch consisting of 2 small soup, 1 small pizza, 2 coke and a small piece of chocolate cake and it cost 21.45 which is almost $50.00. Supper was 2 double bacon cheeseburger, 1 large fries and 1 coke at 11.86 almost $25.00. The prices for Burger King and McD's and most other things, is the same in pounds as we pay in Canada the only difference is we have to multiply the pound by 2.2 which makes it double the cost.
We drove to a few places today including Glastonbury in Gloucestershire. and went through 3 counties. Tomorrow we leave Wiltshire and head into the Costswalds. We're hoping to see the Crooked House; Bourton-on-the-Water, Upper and Lower Slaughter, and Strafford on Avon, the Home of Shakespeare. Bob is going to put some pictures on if they will take. Looking forward to talking to you all in the next couple of days. Missing everyone but having an awesome time. Looking forward to things and then finally getting to see them is really great.
