April 21

We're back in England after a long day driving from Edinburgh to York, via Alnwick Castle, and Chesters Roman Fort ruins. We also had to fight with blondie (my pet name for the voice on our GPS). She wanted to take us on the main freeway to York, however, we heard on the radio that there was a traffic tieup along the way, so Jan came up with a different route to bypass it. She was NOT a happy camper, constantly wanting us to return to "her" route. Eventually, blondie was able to re-calculate and realize that this route would also work. LOL

The visit to Alnwick castle was very interesting. It is a 'working' castle, which means the family still lives there, six months out of the year. They seem to be a very down to earth kind of family, if I might use that term, after seeing their "home". I wasn't able to take pictures inside, but here are a few of the outside. How would you like to live here?

While we were in the area, we just had to find and see Hadrian's wall, so we finally tracked down a spot called Chesters Roman Fort, where we saw a piece of the 'actual' wall??? who knows, it could all be a great hoax. Anyway, the ruins were interesting to see. I took lots of pictures, and by then Jan was getting tired of all the walking so we took off for York.

After the earlier mentioned 'fight' with the GPS, we eventually arrived at a very nice B&B, which turned out to be about 200% nicer than the last one we had in Edinburgh. Here, at least, we can put our suitcases down and have room to move around. Tomorrow, we will tour York, and all it has to offer, and maybe rest a bit.
